I just put in an additional 1GB RAM (Kingston ValueRAM) and it just works wonders.
Now, with every graphics setting turned waaaay up, I can still ride through Ironforge without ending up in the trench between the bank and the auction house ;-)
And outdoor scenary look way cooler now :-)
At first I thought I had blown something because I started getting these "crazy triangles" that essentially made the screen look like somebody has been running wild with a box of crayons.
Quitting WoW wasn't enough. Windows also started acting up, so I had to reboot my computer every 5 minutes to get rid of the errors :-(
Installing new ATI drivers (Catalyst Control Center 6.3 for Windows XP
) didn't work.
Uninstalling drivers with the native uninstaller, and then removing the leftovers with 3rd party software (DriverCleaner
) before installing new drivers again didn't help either.
But relocating my RAM blocks helped. I moved the Kingston RAM from the blue sockets to the other two banks, and moved the original Samsung RAM into the blue sockets.
It essentially disabled my Dual Channel RAM, but my system became rock steady after that :-)
